food waste prevention.

Californians throw away nearly six million tons of food waste every year. This is approximately 18 percent of all material entering our landfills. In California, the majority of man-made methane gas comes from the decomposition of organic matter in our landfills, which is contributing to global warming.
Fortunately, we all can take simple steps to reduce the food waste going into our landfills. And, best of all, this food waste can be put to beneficial use. The City of Oceanside is partnering with Waste Management to help you and your community adopt more sustainable habits to reduce food waste and fight climate change.
Through these Food Waste Prevention Tutorials students and residents of all ages will learn about the problem of foot waste, how we can each adopt small changes to reduce our contribution to food waste, and what we can do to put this resource to better use in our everyday lives.
